On July 5, the 2025 International Paddle Tennis Tour Silver Tournament (Chengdu Station) opened at the Chengdu X7 International Paddle Tennis Club, attracting nearly 300 outstanding players from more than 20 countries and regions including Spain, Italy, Australia, Japan, and the Philippines. This is the first time that this international high-level event has settled in China and the first time it has come to Chengdu.
The event was authorized by the International Paddle Tennis Federation (FIP), hosted by the Tennis Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sports of China and the Chinese Tennis Association, and undertaken by the Sichuan Paddle Tennis Association. “This time, many players ranked in the top 100 in the world, and even in the top 20, are of very high level,” said Yang Xinchen, executive president of the Sichuan Paddle Tennis Association.
In the first women’s doubles match in the morning, a pair of Chinese players faced the Spanish and Italian combinations. The two sides competed fiercely on the court, which aroused cheers
from the audience. Carolina, an Italian player, said: “I am very happy to come to Chengdu. The competition atmosphere here is very good and the venue is very professional. I will do my best to strive for a good ranking this time.”

The International Paddle Tennis Tour Silver Level Tournament is one of the series of events
launched by the International Paddle Tennis Federation (FIP). Currently, the organization has attracted nearly 5,000 top players from 72 countries and regions to participate by hosting a series of events such as platinum, gold, silver and bronze medal tournaments.
“We, the Chinese Tennis Association, started promoting this sport in 2018. At the beginning, venue construction was a problem and it was difficult to get started. In the past two years, as people have become more aware of this emerging project, it has gradually developed very well, and the number of participants has increased,” said Sun Wenbing, director of the Youth and Mass Tennis Department of the Tennis Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sports of China and deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Tennis Association, in an interview with the Cover News reporter. In order to make this project develop rapidly and attract more public attention, this year, this FIP event was introduced. The first stop was held in Dezhou, Shandong, and Chengdu was the second stop. These two stops were the first time that the international FIP silver-level event was introduced to China, attracting many high-level players from home and abroad to participate. “It is also a learning opportunity for Chinese players. At present, there are very few Chinese players with international rankings, and they may have to use wild cards to enter international competitions. I hope they can realize the gap between them and international high-level athletes through this event and work hard to improve their own level.”
Talking about the development of this sport, Sun Wenbing said, “The Chinese Tennis Association has also launched youth events this year. We hope that these places where paddle tennis is carried out can also pay attention to young people. In the future, when paddle tennis enters the Olympics, we will be prepared in advance and develop from the starting stage. Now we also plan to send some domestic players to some excellent international paddle tennis clubs to learn. Last year, we sent Chinese players to participate in the World Paddle Tennis Championships in the Asian qualifiers for the first time. Although their level is not as good as others, they still showed a good style, broadened their horizons, and strengthened their belief in winning glory for the country.”
As an emerging sport, paddle tennis has been carried out in Sichuan for some time. “Since the establishment of the Sichuan Paddle Tennis Association, Sichuan’s paddle tennis level has been second to none in the country. The champion, runner-up and third place of the China Paddle Tennis Open are basically produced here.” Yang Xinchen talked about how beginners can learn this sport. He said, “You can learn through the video teaching on the official website of the Chinese Tennis Association or the Sichuan Paddle Tennis Association, or go to the club offline for daily primary training. This sport is very easy to get started. As long as you have experience with small balls, it only takes five minutes.”
